Flannel & Denim & Bees waxed leathers

1.  I'll readily admit that my knowledge of the war to restore Palestine has mainly been of a passing nature. While ongoing and horrific, the distance afforded to me by living in America easily envelops one in the luxury of ignorance. I've had no problem accepting such a generous offer. I didn't want the burden of another war on my conscious anyways.

Fast forward several years, my knowledge is expanding but it's a full time job to stay abreast of the conflict. I'm enrolled in a Post Colonial Literature course this semester and one of the text, Mornings in Jenin deals with the conflict. We've viewed the film Salt of this Sea to provide a visual catalog of this most coveted land. I've grown angry with my complacency, my devotion to ignoring the details of this experience in hopes of preserving my comfort zone.

2.  There's more speculation about the production of atomic weapons in Iran. The question remains however, what end result will realistically be achieved if the American Government engages in any action with Iran? How many more young & old people are to be sacrificed in an ideological war significantly fueled by contradicting religious text? In so much as Iran's nuclear endeavors are ecologically sound, there are more pressing matters that our government should address on the domestic front (how does the richest nation in the world, home to countless engineered food products, have millions of starving citizens attempting to sleep every night?).

As for the concerns about "stability in the region" & "terror threats" both notions are remarkably outdated and problematic. War & Love are two constants of the human condition. Terror is food for the ignorant to feast upon. I've more to say on this matter, it's a tad repressed. I'll revisit this again soon.

3.  All kinds of bizarre things happen & thrive on the Northshore (Slidell/Covington/Madeville area). I don't notice public outcry about these cases to be as aggressive as when discussions regarding what happens within  the New Orleans area (Orleans Parish specifically). I don't do race baiting/race wars, a spade is a spade though.

4. I need this cold snap to snap so I can have my seasonal cold then recover strong and enjoy the cold of the morning as I attempt to meditate. These 3 day cold spells just encourage late sleeping and general laziness.

5. When I wanted a distraction, none was to be found. No where, I searched. The tides shift and I no longer have need for a distraction and I'm literally tripping over them.

6. I have a good friend who I've known since childhood, since we were 6 yrs old to be exact. We got into trouble all the time during our late teens/early twenties, primarily with our parents. So much so, that we weren't allowed to hang out with each other because only in each other's presence would the most outlandish shit happen. I'm suppose to be linking up with him soon, I hope for a very ordinary, excitement free evening. I  don't recall envisioning the day when such an evening would sound as appealing as it does.

7. I want what I have therefore I have what I want. If it exists outside of my possession, it also exists beyond my desires. Daily, I remind myself of this in order to retain my perspective and not be consumed in the consumption based reality which modernity has provided the masses.

8.  Jerry Sandusky is a tortured, sick human being whose actions warrant a public execution. The same applies to Paterno & everyone else who knew what was going on and refused to report it to the police.

I've no faith in the American Justice System and would be less than surprised if a hung jury was the result of his trial. Some would argue that America is far to advanced for such "rudimentary" dispensations of justice. I'll argue that we are actually too advanced to deal with this matter in the manner in which it should be handled. May the deity of his devotion have compassion on what remains of his soul because he will find none from me.

This is my stance regarding anyone who is abusing children, man or woman, race, age, class, demographic marker of your preference aside.

I don't pray often (for reasons you're more than welcome to hear should be fortunate enough to ask me in person) but I have prayed that these young men will able to face the demon of their abuse and come to a place of understanding that allows them to fulfill their exceed their potential in spite of their experience.

9. I understand you want to Occupy Wall Street, Main Street, All Streets etc but who's sustaining your reality while you engage in civil disobedience? The mere fact that you can even organize and find this means of expression viable speaks to the reality that even America's poor are the richest in the world. This naive notion that wealth will *ever* be equally distributed would be laughable if people weren't so entranced by it. Hitler was once quoted for declaring that "Equality is the dream of small children on holiday". While he was obviously a troubled soul, there is truth in that declaration. A group of people, living as a collective, equally distributing resources among themselves in a post colonial, post industrial reality is laughable at best. I applaud your efforts though, you dutiful protesters, you afford the rest of us, who are inclined to watch the evening news, something to digest aside from homicides and failed foreign policy.

10. There was a time when I considered becoming a welder. I'm sure that would have significantly altered the pass decade I've lived through, an experienced welder potentially a not soo experienced writer.
