As a man of African descent in the United States of America, I've never been a fan of law enforcement. This nation law's and their loose interpretation have always been in opposition to my life. I've friends in law enforcement and their presence there simultaneously baffles & angers me. These are 3 recent examples, 2 within less than 30 days of this post.
2. This final semester of college has been a roller coaster ridefrom hell that I'm anxious to end. My post graduation plans are still in their formative stages, not as because of fear. Rather from exhaustion. Petition the universe in the manner you do, should you feel so inclined, as I push through these next 40+ days.
3. I've reached a new (read: remarkably tainted) sense of awareness about companionship, love, and absence. There was a time when I would critique such a view as being the result of stress & temporary. That's far from the case now. In the interest of efficiency, I've elected to conduct myself in the light of the concrete (even semi-empirical) knowledge gained from my travels. For that, I make no apologies and ask for no forgiveness.
4. There's been a bounty scandal involving the New Orleans Saints. As a local, I'm far less than happy about the NFL's formal decision regarding the manner, not because of abstract notions of fairness and justice (those too I'm losing faith in), I'm upset because of the economic reality in this magical, mythical city known as New Orleans to cartographers and businessmen alike. The local economy depends greatly on this football team to sustain the masses of residents who live an hourly wage reality. There's also the regional moral boost the team provides, post Katrina those Saints game were our respite from the man made catastrophe of failed infrastructure. It's common knowledge that if they lose a Sunday game, tensions run high across the area until at least Wednesday.
The coaching staff wagered livelihoods on their testosterone driven desire to be the best. Even the casual fan, like myself, is angered and confused.
5. I've reached a plateau in one of my more immediate familial relationships at a point in life where, quite frankly, I really don't need the stress. Sadly enough, I simply don't care to salvage it. I seek only to maintain an operational peace within the exchange until such time comes where it no longer matters soo greatly.
6. Whatever the justification, it matters not, men's clothing is entirely too fucking expensive. The cost associated with dressing one's self in a manner deemed respectable rivals what one would allocate for housing and food. I'm no trendsetting, fashion savvy aspiring model, merely a grown ass man who dresses as such. I clean up as well as the next gent with proper preparation but it would appear one need to prepare engage in less than acceptable exchanges to dress in a manner that could possibly give me 3 mins of grace when dealing with the tentacles of Western power.
7. I detest senseless exercises in verbal & non-verbal communication decoding. It isn't for lack of skill, I'm no idiot. My disdain lies solely in the fact that more often than not, the message I'm decoding actually needs to be relayed quickly, as more often than not it is based on such fleeting information as affections. In the interest of minimizing my frustrations, I've decided ignore these silly exercises all together. Time wasted on conditional realities would be better utilized bringing my goals to life and furthering my limited knowledge base.
In short: Miss me with the cat & mouse games, if it's on your mind, make me know it via clear concise verbiage. Otherwise, carry it to your grave.
8. I've the arduous task of plowing through Rushdie's Satanic Verses in less three weeks. It's for an assignment obviously. I was hoping to read it over the summer at my leisure, ha! Such a mythical beast is not mine to entertain at this juncture.
9. I was raised to perform and not complain. Some days that works out better than others.
10. Still long hair, don't care. (the Alamo reference has been dropped for obvious concerns of Western insensitivity)
11. Whenever you remove someone from your life or they remove themselves via a cessation in communication, if at all possible, send then on their way with smile & cheerful wishes. Embrace the purge, more often than not it is the catalyst to a learning experience. Should you be questioned why, if possible, provide the person a reason. You owe them nothing, but it is the polite thing to do.
12. My 3rd Gen iPod classic makes for a most cumbersome paper weight, perhaps I'll just take it apart since it's been completely useless since February 14, 2012.
